Tulpan, which won Un Certain Regard honours at Cannes 2008, is the first feature by the highly acclaimed documentary filmmaker and this year’s keynote speaker Sergey Dvortsevoy. It is a truly amazing film, and like non-other you will see all year. The world it portrays is so unfamiliar it could be set on Mars, and yet Dvortsevoy manages to create a unique deadpan comedy about the yurt dwellers of Kazakhstan and an apprentice shepherd failing to find a wife, which is engaging, humorous, and life affirming. The film will be introduced by writer and director Sergey Dvortsevoy.
