10 Feb 2010
At the 8th annual Ffresh Awards Ceremony at Aberystwyth Art Centre this evening (12th Feb 2010) the 2010 winners were announced. Hosted by popular Welsh TV presenter and DJ Huw Evans a total of 13 awards were presented in categories including Animation, Fiction and Motion Graphics. The International Film School Wales, Newport received the highest number of awards securing a total of four Ffresh Awards, closely followed by the University of Glamorgan who received three awards, other winners at the Awards Show included student work from Aberystwyth University, Swansea Metropolitan University and Trinity College Carmarthen.
"The Ffresh Awards have become an integral part of the media calendar in Wales. They confirm annually that we have a large number of talented students who are capable of engaging successfully within the professional media industry" said Maggie Russell, chair of Ffresh.
The organisers of the festival dedicated the 2010 Awards ceremony to the memory of Dave Berry. The much respected film historian who sadly passed away earlier this year leaves a lasting legacy including his monumental book Wales and Cinema: the first 100 years which will continue to be a source of reference to students and anyone interested in Wales and cinema for decades to come.
Festival highlights included an actors masterclass with David Morrisey (pictured above) and a keynote interview with the brilliant Kazakh director Sergey Dvortsevoy.
