Ffresh 2009 shortlisted film wins in Iran
7 Dec 2009
Earlier this year Roshd International Film Festival in Iran screened an hour package of work from the 2009 Ffresh Awards. Some of the films selected to screen at the festival included Elephants (winner of the Ffresh Out of Sight category), Les Malgre-nous (shortlisted for the Ffresh Animation category) and Into the Inkwell (shortlisted in the Short Shorts category).
Ffresh can now proudly announce that Les Malgre-nous won the festivals Special Prize which saw Sophie Lau the filmmaker receiving 4 golden coins and special statue for her work which tells the tale of two brothers and how war comes between them. "We’re absolutely delighted for Sophie and Glyndŵr University" said Ffresh Festival Coordinator James Nee. "Roshd is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the Middle East, so to win one of the top prizes of the festival is a considerable achievement."
Iran is one of the more recent additions to Ffresh’s list of our International Partner Festivals and along with the Expresion en Corto festival in Mexico, they are the second festival to programme showcases of Ffresh Award winning films. With the early success of the exchange programme Ffresh hopes to continue similar programmes with its other partner festivals around the world.
For 2010 the International Partner Festival Scheme will be exclusively sponsored by Skillset Screen Academy Wales. "With the support of Skillset Screen Academy Wales we believe that we can develop exchange programmes with student moving image festivals around the world that will gain international exposure and recognition for students from Wales, and will also attract international students to come and study in Wales" said James Nee.
