Ffresh Awards 2010 Judges Announced

The judges for the 2010 Ffresh Awards have been announced.
Each year Ffresh manages to secure some of the most renowned and respected industry professionals to judge the Ffresh Awards and this year is no exception with a jury comprising of 14 highly acclaimed figures, each with considerable experience in the field they will be overseeing. The judges now have the unenviable task of watching all the entries for the Ffresh 2010 Awards and whittling them down to a shortlist of 5 for each category.
In a Ffresh first, one of this year’s jurors will be watching and selecting the best Ffresh entries from half way around the world in Australia. Brian Hannant is currently Head of Scriptwriting at Sydney Film School will be judging the Ffresh Short Shorts Category. Brian co-wrote Mad Max 2 and was second Unit Director on the film, more recently he has completed screenplays for two feature films currently in development.
A little closer to home, Welsh Writer Cath Treganna was asked to judge this year’s Welsh Language Category. Her credits include writing five episodes of the UK version of Law and Order for Kudos Film and television as well as writing two episodes for both the first and second series of Torchwood for BBC and writing her own original drama series The Bench which ran for two successful series on both BBC Wales and later on network.
Sian Price will be one of the judges overseeing this year’s popular Factual category. Sian has a wealth of experience as a television producer and director, she is also an award winning radio producer, a history specialist, co-director of Tinkerbox Productions and more recently she has embarked on the challenge of writing a non-fiction book which is due to be published in 2010. Lowri Elen Jones, a journalist for Golwg and a keen film buff will be co-judging the Factual category with Sian.
This year’s Motion Graphics category – in another Ffresh first - will be judged by a company rather than an individual. Roughcollie have a long and successful heritage in motion graphics and interactive design, their diverse portfolio includes film titles, television title sequence and visual effects which combine extensive 2D and 3D animation skills and post-production techniques, making them a perfect candidate to judge this category.
Brian Minchin, Script Editor and Producer at BBC Drama Wales is one of the recruits Ffresh secured to judge this year’s TV Category. Brian has recently worked on the BBC One mini-series, Torchwood: Children of Earth and Belonging, and is currently working on the new series of Doctor Who. Brian will share the task of judging this category with Berwyn Rowlands, Managing Director of The Festivals Company and film fan.
